From Service to Healing at AdventHealth Castle Rock

For Yesenia Olguin, a Surgical Tech in the Labor and Delivery department at AdventHealth Castle Rock, serving others has always been part of her identity. Before joining the AdventHealth Castle Rock team in October 2025, she served her country as a Surgical Technician in the U.S. Army, an experience that shaped not only her skills, but her purpose.

Olguin joined the Army at just 18 years old, driven by a desire to challenge herself and contribute to something greater.

“I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself,” she says. “I wanted to get away from home and grow as a person independently.”

Her service took her across the globe, stationed in Tennessee, South Korea, and Colorado. She also deployed to Afghanistan in 2016. During those years, she honed her craft as a Surgical Tech, working under high-pressure conditions that demanded precision, teamwork, and resilience.

When her time in uniform came to an end, Olguin knew her journey in health care was far from over.

“I loved my career field and wanted to continue to pursue it as a civilian,” she explains.

Today, she’s pursuing her nursing degree at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS), continuing to build on the foundation her military service gave her.

It was a friend who first introduced her to AdventHealth Castle Rock, describing it as a place filled with “amazing people and an environment overall.” That recommendation led her to her current role in Labor and Delivery, where she’s embraced a new chapter of growth and balance.

“I had worked in the Main OR for most of my career and wanted a change of scenery and pace,” she says. “It allows me to balance school and work at the same time.”

Olguin credits her military background with shaping her professionalism and dedication to excellence, qualities she carries into every shift at AdventHealth.

“It gave me the foundation to be a professional and to be the standard for others to emulate,” she says. “I take pride in what I do and always make sure to go above and beyond so my team and patients have the best care possible.”

For Olguin, Veterans Day is more than a national holiday, it’s a deeply personal day of reflection.

“It’s a day where we can remember the past, present, and future veterans who are part of the 1% who raised their hands and took an oath to serve and protect our country,” she shares.

She emphasizes recognizing the individual, not just the uniform, in service.

“Many of my friends who served were also mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, and friends. This day is to remember them for who they were both with and without the uniform. Their imprint will stay with those who know them forever, they’ve become a part of history.”

As she continues her career at AdventHealth Castle Rock and works toward becoming a registered nurse, Olguin embodies the organization’s mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ, rooted in service, strengthened by discipline, and guided by compassion.
