Santa made a special visit to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Birth Center. Santa, along with Mrs. Claus, took photos with the premature babies being cared for in the NICU, bringing joy to families during a challenging time.
AdventHealth Shawnee Mission’s Level III NICU provides the best possible care for babies who require extra medical and nursing attention. Made up of nurses, respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, pharmacists and social workers, each supports the medical team of Children’s Mercy neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners who oversee the special care of our NICU babies. The unit features 24 private rooms for mothers and their babies, in which four rooms are specifically designed to accommodate twins. The NICU also features a Family Retreat Area with a fireplace, kitchenette, private bath and lockers, creating a comfortable and spacious place for families to feel as close to home as possible.
