UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Phillips, MD, MBA, as Chief Medical Officer of UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Hinsdale and La Grange.
Dr. Phillips is a highly accomplished health care leader and seasoned emergency medicine physician with more than 20 years of experience driving clinical excellence and operational innovation. He will officially begin his new role on October 27.
Most recently, Dr. Phillips served as Chief Medical Officer at Baptist Health Floyd, a 266-bed regional referral center in southern Indiana. In that role, he led strategic initiatives to enhance patient care, improve system-wide performance and foster collaboration across departments.
Prior to that, Dr. Phillips was the Regional Medical Director for Illinois Emergency Medicine Specialists, serving patients at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth’s four hospitals in Hinsdale, La Grange, Bolingbrook and Glendale Heights (formerly a part of AMITA Health). In addition, he led the emergency department at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth GlenOaks in his capacity as Medical Director of that site, leading successful initiatives in quality improvement, physician engagement and evidence-based care delivery.
“It is a privilege and a pleasure to return to AdventHealth, where mission and faith converge to heal, inspire and change lives,” said Dr. Phillips. “Excellence is a habit, and I intend to bring that ethos to UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Hinsdale and La Grange hospitals. Together, we will continue to elevate patient care with intentionality and compassion. I look forward to this next chapter with great excitement about the potential we can and will achieve in partnership with the communities we serve.”
Dr. Phillips earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He completed his emergency medicine residency through the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency, based at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.
