Grief is a journey no one chooses, yet so many must walk. At AdventHealth Manchester, we believe that no one should have to walk it alone.
Through compassionate care and a strong community of support, we help individuals find hope even in their darkest moments. One of those individuals is Pamela McGeorge—a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother—who faced unimaginable loss and chose to turn her pain into purpose. McGeorge shared a deeply personal story of love, loss, healing and the power of connection in her own words below:
"My name is Pamela McGeorge, and I want to share my journey in hopes that it will inspire others facing the pain of loss. Earlier this year, my world changed forever when my husband of 38 years passed away from lung cancer. Paul was the heart of our family, always active, always giving, and deeply loved by our children and grandchildren. His illness progressed quickly, and watching someone so full of life fade was devastating for all of us.
After his passing, I knew I couldn’t walk this path alone. My son encouraged me to seek support. With his help and the guidance of Melissa Kissel, I joined the AdventHealth’s grief support group. This group became a lifeline for me. Each week, I found comfort in sharing my story and listening to others who understood the unique pain of loss. I realized that my feelings: denial, sadness, and even disbelief were normal, and that healing is possible when we come together.
The group taught me that staying busy and connected is essential. I increased my workdays and made time for family and friends, finding new purposes each day. It’s not about escaping grief but about honoring Paul’s memory by living fully and cherishing the moments we have.
To keep Paul’s legacy alive, I began writing a children’s book called “Pap Goes to Heaven.” It’s dedicated to our grandchildren, helping them understand how much their grandfather loved them and offering comfort as they process their own feelings of loss.
My faith has also been a source of strength. At AdventHealth Manchester, I found a place where I could talk openly about the healing ministry of Christ and draw encouragement from others who share my beliefs. This spiritual support has been a cornerstone of my recovery."
If you are struggling with grief, please know that you are not alone. The grief support group at AdventHealth Manchester welcomes anyone who has experienced loss. Together, we can find hope, healing, and the courage to move forward—one day at a time.
McGeorge’s journey is a powerful reminder that while grief may feel isolating, healing begins when we reach out and walk together.
