Gordon Hospital will be hosting a retirement reception honoring Chaplain Dave Smith for his 15 years of service. The reception will be held on Tuesday, July 18 from 5:30 to 7 pm in Gordon Hospitals East Lobby.
On behalf of everyone at Gordon Hospital, we would like to thank Chaplain Dave for his dedication to our patients and our community, said Pete Weber, president and CEO of Gordon Hospital. He has fulfilled our mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ each day for the past 15 years, and he will be greatly missed as he enters retirement.
Smith has been pastoring Seventh-day Adventist churches and serving in hospitals for over 40 years and has served as Gordon Hospital's chaplain-health educator for 15 years. During this time, he has led the hospitals Breathe Free program, which has an 85 percent success rate at helping people quit smoking since 2006. He was the recipient of the D.O.V.E. Leadership Award in 2015. Smith was also this years recipient of the George Seddon He Works through Me Award, which recognizes an employee for best reflecting the hospitals mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ and exemplifies the ministry style of Jesus.
Outside of his profession, Smith enjoys spending time with his wife of more than 40 years, Cheryl, his two adult children, and four grandchildren.
