PALM COAST, Fla., April 25, 2018 In honor of National Volunteer Week, Florida Hospital Flagler hosted a volunteer appreciation luncheon at the Halifax Plantation Golf Club in Ormond Beach on April 18 for more than 120 volunteers.
President Richard Nixon established National Volunteer Week with an executive order in 1974 to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers. Every sitting U.S. president since Nixon has issued a proclamation during National Volunteer Week.
In May of 1980, the hospital's volunteer auxiliary was formed with 53 Flagler County residents. Today, Florida Hospital Flagler has more than 175 active volunteers assisting in 25 departments throughout the hospital. Collectively, this group of volunteers has donated more than 1.6 million hours in service to Florida Hospital Flagler.
Our volunteers are so important to our hospital, said Kathy Gover, Florida Hospital Flagler chief nursing officer. They touch our patients and support our staff members in so many ways. We truly appreciate their time and talents.
As a special gift of appreciation, SuperWash Express donated gift certificates for a free carwash to the hospital volunteers.
We are inspired by all volunteers and what they give back to our communities, said Paul Bradley, president of SuperWash Express. This is a small thank you for all the time they give to others.
