American Legion Donates $6,000 to Fight Breast Cancer

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., December 12, 2017 On Dec. 7, the American Legion Post 267 presented $6,100 to Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center to provide mammograms for local uninsured and underinsured women and men.

This generous gift will be used to help fund the fight against breast cancer for those who do not have the financial means to get an annual screening mammogram, said Carol Rumer, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center imaging operations manager. We are grateful for this gift from the American Legion. It will truly help save lives in our community!

The American Legion is the largest wartime veterans service organization with 2.4 million members in nearly 14,000 posts across America. The Legion, established by an act of Congress in 1919, was instrumental in getting the original GI Bill through Congress and the creation of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The only veterans service organization in Ormond Beach, the American Legion Post 267 has four different units of membership: members who served in times of war; an auxiliary of women who have a family member that served in a time of war; Sons of the Legion who are men that have a family member that served in time of war; and Legion Riders who belong to one of the units and like to ride motorcycles.
