AdventHealth Wauchula is excited to announce the opening of a new health and wellness center, AdventHealth Wellness Center Wauchula, located at 610 West Orange Street, Wauchula, 33873. The 11,500 square foot facility was transformed from a YMCA into a state-of-the-art, 24-hour access health and wellness center to meet the needs of the Hardee County community. The center is open to the public.
“Our commitment to health and wellness extends far beyond our hospitals,” said Denise Grimsley, VP of Administration, AdventHealth Wauchula. “Opening AdventHealth Wellness Center Wauchula is just one more way we’re able to expand our services outside of the traditional setting to meet the health needs of our community.”
Currently, the number of residents in Wauchula living with diabetes exceeds the state average and health officials report more than 56% of people living in Hardee County have high cholesterol and around 30% have high blood pressure. AdventHealth Wellness Center Wauchula will serve as a community resource to help everyone live their healthiest lives possible by offering diabetes education and additional health services.
“We want to help our community to be as healthy as possible,” said Becky McIntyre, Director of Wellness at AdventHealth Wellness Center Wauchula. “Exercising regularly is one of the most important factors in improving health and wellness and we are eager to assist our community in lowering the risk of preventable diseases by providing access to resources to keep them well.”
AdventHealth Wellness Center Wauchula features a full weight room, cardio room with treadmills, ellipticals, spin bikes and stair climbers. Additionally, the center offers a full range of classes for teens, adults and seniors which include: stretching and stress relief, Tai Chi, circuit strength, step and sculpt, and boot camps.
The facility has historic value to the community starting in 1950 when it began as the local youth center and was later named after baseball coach Leon Sharp – an instrumental force in Hardee County for many years. AdventHealth Wellness Center Wauchula will continue to honor his name.
AdventHealth Wauchula is consistently named a Top Rural Hospital by the prestigious Leapfrog Group and in 2019 was the only rural hospital in Florida to receive the designation.
