AdventHealth Ottawa and AdventHealth Shawnee Mission and earned five stars from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings. AdventHealth’s hospitals are two of only 10 in Kansas to earn the highest possible rating, and 407 out of the more than 4,500 U.S. hospitals surveyed.
The overall hospital rating includes a variety of the more than 100 measures reported on Hospital Compare, divided into seven measure groups or categories: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care, and efficient use of medical imaging. Overall Hospital Ratings for January 2020 were calculated using measure data from the October 2019 Hospital Compare refresh and the February 2019 methodology.
“The five-star rating is a reflection of our promise to be a national leader in consumer-focused health care,” said AdventHealth Mid-America Region CEO Sam Huenergardt. “Our nurses, physicians and team members throughout the region are proud to see their work providing whole-person care to this community recognized with the highest possible quality rating.”
CMS first revealed an overall star rating for hospitals in July 2016. The rating is meant to provide a starting point for comparing a hospital to others locally and nationwide. While patients are encouraged to seek the nearest hospital in case of an emergency, Hospital Compare provides a place for those who can plan for their care to research their options.
AdventHealth Shawnee Mission’s score includes data from AdventHealth Lenexa and AdventHealth South Overland Park.
