AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach has earned the Pathway to Excellence designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Held by less than 200 health care organizations worldwide, all four AdventHealth hospitals in Volusia County – AdventHealth Daytona Beach, AdventHealth DeLand, AdventHealth Fish Memorial, and now AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach – are the only hospitals in the county to earn the ANCC Pathway to Excellence distinction.
"This designation speaks to the relentless dedication of our nurses,” said Darla Fish, chief nursing officer of AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach. “Their passion for providing exceptional patient care, growing professionally, and creating a positive work environment has been critical to earning this prestigious recognition."
This accolade signifies AdventHealth’ s commitment to maintaining exceptional nursing standards across the region and creating a workplace where nurses can flourish. The framework of the ANCC Pathway to Excellence award includes six standards and emphasizes collaboration among nurses, accessible leadership, safety for both patients and nurses, high quality patient care, nursing well-being through recognition and mental health support, and continuous professional development for nursing competency.
“Nurses dedicate their careers to caring for others in their time of need. To do this to the best of their ability, they need an environment that supports them and upholds the highest standards. Achieving this designation across all our Volusia County hospitals highlights our deep commitment to creating environments where nurses can truly thrive and deliver the very best patient care,” said Michele Goeb-Burkett, chief nursing officer for AdventHealth's East Florida Division, which includes Brevard, Flagler, St. Johns, northern Lake, southern Sumter and Volusia counties.
This recognition aligns with AdventHealth's broader commitment to nursing excellence. Across Central Florida, AdventHealth Celebration, AdventHealth for Children and AdventHealth for Women, specifically the hospital’s Labor and Delivery, Mother-Infant Unit, Obstetrical Emergency Department, and Perinatal High-Risk Unit, have earned the ANCC’s highest designation of Magnet, underscoring AdventHealth’s focus on exemplary patient care and nursing excellence.
