LEESBURG, Fla., April 23, 2020 — AdventHealth is continuing to expand its community COVID-19 testing in Central Florida and will open a drive-up testing site at Lake-Sumter State College on Saturday.
“As we get ready to open up our local economy, making tests available is one of the most important things we can do to prevent further spread of COVID-19 and keep our community safe,” said Abel Biri, president and CEO of AdventHealth Waterman. “We are grateful for our partnership with Lake-Sumter State College for helping make this site available for the community. I would also like to thank Lake County officials and the Department of Health for their technical and logistics support.”
AdventHealth has tested more than 18,000 people in its hospitals and Centra Care urgent care facilities — more than any other health care system in Florida, according to the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
“This is a great stride forward in gathering more evidence to make decisions that are grounded in facts to get Lake County’s families and businesses back to normal,” said Thomas Carpenter, Lake County emergency management director. “I applaud AdventHealth for making this investment in Lake County and our residents.”
Registration is highly encouraged and those who meet the criteria and wish to be tested should schedule an appointment at AdventHealthCoronaVirusTesting.com prior to arrival.
The tests are available to anyone with symptoms or anyone who has had close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, even if they are not currently experiencing symptoms.
Those who wish to be tested do not need a doctor’s order prior to arrival. There are no out-of-pocket costs, regardless of insurance status. AdventHealth will cover the cost of those who are uninsured. The test consists of coughing and spitting into a cup.
AdventHealth leaders are grateful to partner with Lake-Sumter State College, located at 9501 U.S. Hwy. 441 in Leesburg, to provide this much-needed service.
“We are deeply committed to serving and supporting the communities of Lake and Sumter counties, and are pleased to expand our ongoing partnership with AdventHealth to offer a local option for COVID-19 testing,” said Kevin Yurasek, Lake-Sumter State College spokesman.
Outside of Lake County, AdventHealth also provides COVID-19 drive-up testing sites at:
- Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee
- Seminole Towne Center mall in Sanford
- Mall at Millenia in Orlando
- Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach
Next week, AdventHealth will also open the following new locations:
- Posner Park in Davenport will open on April 28
- Flagler/Palm Coast campus of Daytona State College on April 29. This location is a partnership with Flagler County Emergence Management, Flagler Volunteer Services and Daytona State College.
Each site’s hours are Monday through Friday from 9 am to 2 pm The Leesburg and Kissimmee sites will also be open this weekend from 9 am to 2 pm
Results can be expected in approximately two to three days. Those tested will receive a text message with instructions on how to retrieve the results. Those who test positive will receive a call from a nurse to review the results and provide care instructions.
The drive-up testing sites are operated by AdventHealth Lab and AdventHealth Centra Care.
