DELAND, Fla., April 18, 2018 AdventHealth DeLand is one of only five hospitals in the state to earn The Joint Commissions Gold Seal of Approval for shoulder replacements, designating the hospital as a Center of Excellence for total shoulder replacement surgery.
This recognition is the highest of its kind in the field of orthopedic surgery and assures the community they are receiving the best orthopedic surgery care possible at our facility, said Lorenzo Brown, AdventHealth DeLand CEO.
Total shoulder joint replacement, also called shoulder arthroplasty, is surgery to replace the bones of the shoulder with an artificial joint. The procedure is usually performed to relieve pain and restore mobility when other treatments are ineffective.
To achieve Center of Excellence status, AdventHealth DeLand underwent rigorous onsite reviews and Joint Commission experts evaluated the hospitals compliance with national care standards, as well as clinical practice guidelines and performance measures.
This accolade complements two other recognitions for AdventHealth DeLand. In addition to earning The Joint Commissions Gold Seal of Approval for shoulder replacements, AdventHealth DeLand is also a Center of Excellence for total hip and total knee replacement surgery.
AdventHealth DeLand is the only facility within Volusia County to receive accreditation in all three joint replacement areas (shoulder, hip, and knee).
