AdventHealth Avista was recently designated as an Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Center of Excellence from DNV Healthcare. DNV is an international certification specialty company, certifying healthcare facilities all over the globe, including specialty areas such as orthopedic and neuro/spine programs.
AdventHealth Avista is a premier destination for total joint replacement surgery, including hips, knees, ankles, feet and shoulders; and for spine surgery including decompressions, fusions and disc replacements. The orthopedic and neurosurgery teams implement the absolute highest standards in quality, patient safety, technology, and the latest best-practice guidelines to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.
The designation of “Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Center of Excellence”, has only been given to 12 hospitals worldwide, 11 other hospitals in the United States, and AdventHealth Avista the first facility in Colorado.
The orthopedic and spine program at Avista is committed to clinical excellence in every aspect of patient care and experience. The requirements to earn this designation is lengthy and includes having things such as detailed policies, documentation, data collection, reporting and overall compliance from every department including: pre-op, post-op, pharmacy, sterile processing, PT, OT, surgery, specialized Joint and Spine nurses, anesthesia, dietary, X-ray, respiratory, clinical documentation, joint/spine camp, care management, and many more.
“Our joint and spine team meets at least monthly to review our processes and work together on program improvements for staff, patients and caregivers,” said Joint and Spine Program Coordinator, Monica Smith. “We initially achieved standard certification in 2012 so as a hospital we strive to exceed expectations from our patients, caregivers and surgeons. We began the process over one year ago to meet even higher standards for this advanced certification and Advanced Center of Excellence designation.”
AdventHealth Avista has earned the trust of physicians who rely on them to provide their patients with the best care possible. Their surgeons have the tools and resources they need to perform successful surgeries, ensuring patient safety, outcomes, and satisfaction from every angle. In fact, Avista is often the preferred choice for physicians when they have complex or high-risk patients, because this is where things are done excellently. This is largely because we adhere to the strict and rigorous standards that DNV sets.
This designation and the various steps that are required for it also greatly matter to insurance companies. Insurance companies want to make sure that their patients get great care with minimal complications and risks.
At AdventHealth Avista, patient care is a team sport as we prepare our patients and their caregivers for their procedures to help make recovery as successful and easy as possible. Presurgical consults and education from nurses, dieticians, therapists and physician assistants optimize healing and recovery. While the patient is in the hospital, their teams work seamlessly to provide whole person care to get patients back to living life to the fullest.
