LAKE, FLAGLER, AND VOLUSIA COUNTIES, November 8, 2018 – Several AdventHealth locations in Lake, Flagler, and Volusia counties have earned “A” ranking in The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2018 Hospital Safety Grade, released today.
With the Hospital Safety Grades, Leapfrog assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on how safe they are for patients.
AdventHealth DeLand in DeLand, AdventHealth Fish Memorial in Orange City, AdventHealth Flagler in Palm Coast, AdventHealth Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach, and AdventHealth Waterman in Tavares each received an “A” rating, the highest ranking possible from this national organization.
AdventHealth New Smyrna in New Smyrna Beach earned a “B” rating.
“This is a journey that takes time and I’m proud of our teams. All 8,000 of our employees in the region work together to deliver safe, reliable, high-quality care to every patient. This accolade is a direct reflection of their unwavering commitment to our culture of safety,” said David Ottati, president and chief executive officer of Adventist Health System’s Central Florida Division - North Region, which includes the AdventHealths located in Volusia, Flagler and Lake counties.
“While I’m not surprised, I am thrilled that our hospitals that earned an ‘A’ rating during the last ranking period also maintained an ‘A’ for this reporting period,” Ottati added. “I’m especially proud of the team at AdventHealth New Smyrna as they have truly dedicated themselves to improving patient care. The work we’ve done together over the last two years has brought our New Smyrna Beach hospital up to a ‘B’ ranking. The work they continue to do today will be reflected in our scores in about two years, and I’m excited to see them continue to improve as we know they will reach their goal of an ‘A’ rating as well.”
Developed under the guidance of a National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign the grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
“AdventHealth’s continued success in achieving an ‘A’ rating is evidence that the organization places an emphasis on protecting patients from preventable medical errors, injuries and infections. We are inspired by AdventHealth’s leadership on patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
