Woman Patient Getting MRI Talking to Nurse

Clear Imaging Because Accuracy Matters

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) produces detailed pictures of organs, soft tissue and bone to help your doctor diagnose and treat medical conditions.

MRIs produce detailed pictures of your internal body structures using a powerful magnetic field, radio-frequency pulses, and a high-tech computer. The exam is non-invasive, and there’s no exposure to radiation. An MRI is among the safest and most versatile imaging methods.

Depending on the type of MRI exam, the procedure usually takes 30 to 60 minutes with no recovery period.

With hospitals and imaging centers in Tampa, Polk, Ocala and Heartland, we offer MRI imaging near you.

What To Expect During Your MRI Exam

Before Your Exam

When you arrive at one of our imaging centers, you’ll be asked to change into MRI scrubs. It’s essential to remove all metal or electronic items. You should also notify your technician if you have any medical devices like pacemakers, stents, filters or screws that may interfere with the scan and results. Please also let them know if you struggle with being in confined spaces.

During Your Exam

The MRI technologist will position you on a moveable exam table, and if your doctor ordered an MRI with contrast, the contrast agent will be administered intravenously. The technologist will place devices called coils around the area of your body being studied. We'll provide earplugs or headphones to minimize noise and help you relax.

When you’re ready, the exam table will move into the MRI unit, and the machine will begin capturing images. You’ll likely hear tapping or thumping sounds when the radio-frequency pulses are activated.

After Your Exam

The imaging center will send your MRI results directly to your ordering physician. Because the scan is non-invasive, no recovery period is necessary.
