Fla., (June 8, 2020) Tampa, FLAt a time when patient safety in our hospitals and health care facilities is top of mind across the globe, AdventHealth North Pinellas has earned the highest marks possible for patient safety by the nationally recognized Leapfrog Group for the 7th consecutive year. The health care ratings organization announced its safety ratings for over 2,600 hospitals across the country.

Only 823, or 31.65%, of those hospitals received an “A” grade nationwide, including AdventHealth North Pinellas, along with five other hospitals in the AdventHealth West Florida Division: AdventHealth Carrollwood, AdventHealth Sebring, AdventHealth Tampa, AdventHealth Wesley Chapel and AdventHealth Zephyrhills. The Safety Grade assigns letter grades of A, B, C, D and F based on how well hospitals protect patients from medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

“Our team is dedicated to ensuring our patients have an exceptional experience with us, and that starts with providing them with the safest level of care,” said Jason Dunkel, President and CEO, AdventHealth North Pinellas. “Earning an A grade for the fourteenth consecutive semester, the longest straight A streak in Tampa Bay, reflects our team’s expertise in delivering safe patient care every day.”

Leapfrog Safety grades are announced twice a year. Each year, the group also announces its Top General Hospital awards. In 2019, AdventHealth Carrollwood, AdventHealth North Pinellas, AdventHealth Sebring, AdventHealth Wesley Chapel and AdventHealth Zephyrhills were awarded Top General Hospital. Additionally, AdventHealth Wauchula was awarded Top Rural Hospital, and was the only hospital in Florida to receive that designation.

“Our unique model of delivering our brand of clinical expertise allows team members provide every patient with the best care in the safest environment every time,” said Dr. Robin McGuinness, Senior Executive Officer of Patient Outcomes, AdventHealth West Florida Division. “This recognition is because of the hard work of our leaders, our physicians and our staff who are committed to keeping our patients safe each and every day, not just during a pandemic.”

AdventHealth voluntarily participates in the Leapfrog assessment and provides full transparency to our hospitals and our data to patient safety experts for review. To see a full list of safety grades, click here.
