A biopsy can help provide important details about a mass that’s found, often during a screening exam. Biopsies can determine if a growth is cancerous or benign and can also identify the stage of cancer. This helps your doctor create a treatment plan that’s right for you – and tailor it to your diagnosis and needs.
At AdventHealth Heart of Florida, our imaging team works closely with your physician to offer several types of biopsy. These procedures are guided by imaging technology, such as MRI, ultrasound or other methods.
Fine needle or core needle biopsies are used to extract cells or a small core of tissue.
Computer and imaging technology are used to guide a needle to a precise spot where a tissue sample can be collected.
Open or Surgical Biopsy
A sample of the growth, or entire growth, is taken by making a small incision in the skin.
