AdventHealth GlenOaks has earned a top safety grade from The Leapfrog Group for the hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, infections and other patient harm.

By earning an “A” grade in the Spring 2022 edition of Leapfrog’s biannual Hospital Safety Grade study, the Glendale Heights, Illinois, hospital ranks among the safest in the nation. It was the seventh consecutive grading period in which Leapfrog has awarded an “A” to the hospital, which is part of AdventHealth Great Lakes Region.

“This recognition is a credit to our physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals, who work tirelessly to provide the highest-quality care and to ensure patient safety by implementing and following the latest best practices,” said Bruce Christian, AdventHealth GlenOaks president and chief executive officer.

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, Leapfrog’s study assigned letter grades of “A,” “B,”, “C,” “D” and “F” to nearly 3,000 U.S. general hospitals based on more than 30 measures of patient safety. The measures gauge hospitals’ performance in the following areas: preventing and responding to patient harm, medication safety, healthcare-associated infections, maternity care, pediatric care, critical care, complex adult and pediatric surgeries, elective adult and pediatric outpatient surgeries, and care for elective outpatient surgery patients. Thirty-three percent of the hospitals in the latest study earned an “A.”

An independent, nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety and transparency in the U.S. health system, Leapfrog assigns safety grades to hospitals across the nation twice annually to give people an easy-to-use tool for finding the safest care in their communities and to foster market incentives for hospitals to make safety a priority. Leapfrog updates its safety study in the spring and fall. It is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
