Many things determine your cardiac fitness. You can control some of them, but not everything. Together, we'll explore the factors that make a positive impact on your heart health, and we'll provide you with plenty of information to feel empowered. Some of the risk factors for heart disease we'll explore include:

  • Age
  • Blood Pressure Management
  • Cholesterol Management
  • Diet and Nutrition
  • Family History
  • Physical Activity
  • Smoking
  • Stress
  • Weight

Knowing the risk factors, and understanding your risk of heart disease, you can make better decisions about your health and wellness. We can help.

Advanced Cardiovascular Treatments

Whatever your heart health needs, our staff at AdventHealth DeLand is here for you. Emergency room care, urgent care, minimally invasive procedures, traditional surgeries — these are all services we provide to the Volusia County area, administered by our expert cardiologists, nurses, clinicians, and teams.

Our respiratory therapists are certified or have additional credentials in the following:

  • ACLS (Adult Cardiac Life Support)
  • Balloon Pump Certifications
  • Basic Life Support
  • Conscious Sedation
  • IV (intravenous Catheter Insertion)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Provider)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

In the case of an emergency event, we’ll work quickly and efficiently to save your life, while using our experience and expertise to repair as much heart tissue as is possible. Often, thanks to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures, we do this without surgery. PCI procedures include balloon catheter angioplasty or stenting. We can often do this with transradial access, meaning we can insert the catheter and reach your artery through your wrist which can make your recovery faster and prevent complications.

We also provide interventional radiology treatments, including:

  • Abdominal Aortic Angiography
  • Carotid Angiography
  • Peripheral Interventional Procedures
  • Picc Line Placement
Know the Warning Signs of a Heart Attack

When it comes to your heart health, it's important to act fast. Heart attacks can come on suddenly, and we want to help you recognize and understand the symptoms so you can reach for treatment quickly. Some of the symptoms of a heart attack or traumatic heart event include:

  • Chest Discomfort, Pressure, or Pain
  • Discomfort in the Upper Body
  • Lightheadedness
  • Nausea
  • Shortness of Breath
  • Sweat

Chest discomfort is the most common heart attack symptom, but often women will have shortness of breath, nausea, and back pain. As with all conditions, different people experience different heart attack symptoms. In any moment of doubt, call 911 immediately.

Supportive Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation

Your care won't end after you leave our hospital. Our comprehensive, 12-week cardiac rehabilitation program helps you make lifestyle changes, educates you and your family on heart-healthy habits, and provides you with medically supervised exercise sessions three days a week. We also offer pulmonary rehabilitation over the course of a 12-week outpatient program that consists of monitored exercise, education, and counseling. When it comes to your heart health, you'll never be without support.
