Florida Hospital Selects Regional Cancer Services Medical Director

FLAGLER and VOLUSIA COUNTIES, Fla., April 4, 2018 Dr. Victor Melgen has been selected to serve as regional medical director of the cancer services for the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties.

In this role, Melgen will help guide the strategic vision and direction for the entire spectrum of oncology services for Florida Hospital DeLand in DeLand, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast, and Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

A board-certified hematologist and medical oncologist with Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute (FCS), Melgen has cared for cancer patients in the West Volusia community, as well as in Lake Mary and Oviedo, for more than 20 years.

Both his internship and residency were served at the internationally recognized University of Miami Jackson Memorial and Miami Veterans Hospital in Miami, Florida. He completed fellowships in both hematology and oncology at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital and Sylvester Cancer Center.

In 2011, Melgen joined FCS and was instrumental in its expansion into Central Florida. He has provided physician leadership, serving on the FCS financial committee, and continues to be a strong advocate of clinical research, having participated in numerous clinical trials.

Most recently, Melgen played a critical role in Florida Hospital Fish Memorial earning a three-year accreditation with commendation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

Dr. Melgen has built a reputation as an excellent and compassionate oncologist and I look forward to working with him in his new leadership role, said Imee Unto, administrator of oncology services for the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties. I am confident he will help us elevate cancer care in our community to the highest levels.
