Tera Hardy, RN has been named Gordon Hospitals second DAISY Award recipient. This award is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the super-human tasks nurses perform every day.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for diseases attacking the immune system.) The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Everyone, regardless of their circumstances, deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, said Hardy. They are someone's loved one, and we have no idea what they are experiencing or going through.
Hardy has been a nurse at Gordon Hospital for two years and currently works in PCU. She was nominated by one of her patients who said the following: It wasn't one situation it was several. Tera always treated me like a member of her family. Once when I was feeling frustrated and scared over a possible blockage, she stopped and held my hand and prayed for me. She was loving and caring to my family and me. She constantly kept in touch with my doctor and tried to help me feel better in any way she could. She is a fabulous nurse who gives 100 percent and goes well beyond her job description. You can tell Tera loves what she does. She even stayed past her time to go home to call my doctor when I wasn't feeling well. Thank you, Tera! You're a fabulous nurse.
All it takes is a smile, a tear, a laugh, an attentive ear, a kind touch, or a small prayer to make a difference in someone's day, said Hardy. We are commanded to love one another, so I do. I give God all the glory in all that I am able to do because without Him, I can do nothing.
Hardy is a resident of Armuchee, Georgia where she resides with her family. She is an active member of Northside Church where she is the hospitality director for the organizations annual women's conference. Outside of her profession, she enjoys being outdoors, taking walks, fishing, and spending time with her dog. Hardy also enjoys spending time with her husband, three daughters, son-in-law, and two grandchildren.
