Strengthening patient care in WNC: AdventHealth Hendersonville earns new nursing recognition

AdventHealth Hendersonville has been designated as a Pathway to Excellence® organization by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a recognition that highlights the hospital’s commitment to creating a positive, supportive and empowering environment where nurses deliver exceptional, whole-person care.

The Pathway to Excellence® Program recognizes health care organizations that demonstrate a culture grounded in shared decision-making, strong leadership, safety, quality, well-being and professional development. These are standards that nurses at AdventHealth Hendersonville live out each day. According to the ANCC, Pathway organizations show that “nurses are empowered and given a voice” and that the environment fosters sustained excellence in patient care and team member experience.

“At AdventHealth, our nurses carry our mission forward with compassion that touches every patient and family we serve,” said Maureen Dzialo, MS, RN, Chief Nursing Officer for AdventHealth in North Carolina. “This Pathway to Excellence designation reflects the heart of our team — their courage, their dedication and the way they care for the whole person: body, mind and spirit. I am incredibly proud of our nurses for building a culture where people feel supported, safe and deeply valued.”

From strengthening shared governance councils to investing in well-being resources and expanding professional growth opportunities, AdventHealth Hendersonville continues to nurture a workplace where nurses feel seen, heard and supported. When these teams feel cared for and empowered, it directly strengthens the compassion, safety and connection they offer every patient and family who depends on them.

Fionna Phillips, MSN, RN, NE-BC, RNC-NIC, is the Nursing Excellence Program Manager and helped lead the Pathway to Excellence journey for AdventHealth Hendersonville. She shared that the designation reflects years of teamwork and intentional listening. “Our nurses shaped this achievement,” said Phillips. “They shared their experiences, elevated ideas and supported one another every step of the way. Most importantly, they reminded us that when we care for our nurses, we care better for our patients. This recognition reflects their courage, their voice and their commitment to helping every person who walks through our doors feel whole.”

As a Pathway organization, AdventHealth Hendersonville will continue to invest in the six Pathway Standards: shared decision-making, leadership, safety, quality, well-being and professional development to ensure that nurses remain empowered as integral, respected partners in care.
