PALM COAST, Fla., March 31, 2016 On March 21, nearly 20 community members from the University Women of Flagler joined Florida Hospital Flagler for a cooking demonstration.
The demonstration was conducted by Ellen Hawkes, Florida Hospital Flagler dietitian. During the event, she prepared a Cowboy Caviar pasta salad and a three-ingredient blender brownie, and informed the group of the dishes health benefits while walking them through each step of the meal preparation.
Ellen presented a very informative demonstration to our group, showing how one can eat healthy food that also has amazing flavor. Her explanations of the value to our bodies of each ingredient were easy to understand, said Jane Mealy, University Women of Flagler event organizer. We are most appreciative of the hospital's willingness to host this demonstration. How wonderful that two organizations with somewhat diverse purposes could support each other within the Flagler community.
The funds raised by this event supported the University Women of Flagler's scholarship fund and the Florida Hospital Flagler Foundations diabetes education fund.
The University Women of Flagler unites graduates of regionally-accredited educational institutions in order to promote equity, education, intellectual growth, individual worth, and development of opportunities for women and girls in the Flagler County area. In 2016 alone, the organization will offer $17,000 in scholarships. For more information about this organization, visit www.uwflagler.org.
