AdventHealth Tampa introduces new MRI technology to enhance comfort, accuracy for breast cancer patients

Patients at AdventHealth Tampa now have access to the latest MRI technology designed to make breast cancer imaging more comfortable and precise than ever before.

The hospital recently installed a new SIEMENS MAGNETOM Aera magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine that features a larger opening and modular design to help patients feel more at ease during scans, while improving diagnostic accuracy. The improved design allows for better positioning and a little more “wiggle room,” reducing the feeling of claustrophobia that many patients experience.

“This technology helps us provide a more comfortable and personalized experience for our patients,” said Dr. Rachel Burke, breast radiologist at AdventHealth Tampa. “The enhanced imaging capabilities also allow us to see details more clearly, which can be especially important for early detection and diagnosis."

The latest in MRI technology is now available at the Kay Meyer Breast Care Center at AdventHealth Tampa.

The new MRI offers higher-resolution imaging and customizable parameters, allowing physicians to capture even the smallest or most difficult-to-see lesions. It also supports specialized breast imaging in a more private and soothing environment, furthering AdventHealth’s mission of providing whole-person care that supports body, mind and spirit.

"Our Kay Meyer Breast Care Center at AdventHealth Tampa is unique in that we have our own breast MRI, where the patients do not have to walk through a hospital to have an exam," Burke said. "It feels intimate and they are taken care of by an experienced MRI technologist who is also a mammography technologist, so they are adept at positioning and understand its importance for the integrity of the exam."
