In collaboration with AdventHealth, the Haines City and Davenport City Commissions have officially proclaimed October 17, 2025, as National Mammography Day in Haines City and Davenport. These proclamations align with a nationwide effort to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention, early detection, and support for those impacted by the disease.

Breast cancer remains the second most common cancer among American women, with one in eight women, approximately 13% of the female population, expected to develop the disease in their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. On average, every two minutes, a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer.

Early detection through regular mammograms and timely follow-up care is proven to save lives, empowering individuals to take charge of their health and partner with their care providers.

“Breast cancer affects so many lives, but early detection can make all the difference,” said Dr. Paul Williams, breast surgical oncologist at AdventHealth Medical Group Breast Surgery at Davenport. “National Mammography Day is a powerful reminder for women to prioritize their health. A simple screening can lead to early diagnosis, treatment options, and better outcomes. We’re honored to offer compassionate, comprehensive breast care right here in our community.”

As part of the proclamations, residents are encouraged to learn about the signs and risks of breast cancer, talk with their health care providers about screening, and to support friends and family pursuing timely mammograms and follow-up care.

AdventHealth Medical Group Breast Surgery at Davenport, part of AdventHealth Heart of Florida, is leading the way in breast health. The center is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons, reflecting its commitment to comprehensive, multidisciplinary breast care close to home.
