Hyperbaric Wound Care for Gentle Healing

Offering state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and treatments like debridement, dressing selection, special shoes and patient education, our Center gives people with chronic wounds a place to turn for healing.
- What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is used as an additional treatment for patients with problematic, non-healing wounds that meet specific criteria. About 10 to 20% of wound care cases do.
Essentially, HBOT helps heal a wound from the inside out. It helps the body produce new, healthy tissue and fight infection, reduce swelling and build new blood vessels.
- How does hyperbaric oxygen therapy work?

During a hyperbaric oxygen treatment, you lie within a hyperbaric chamber, breathing in 100% oxygen. This will quickly increase the concentration of oxygen in your bloodstream, which delivers it to your wound site for faster healing.
Throughout the course of an HBOT treatment, you will be monitored to see if the concentration of oxygen has increased in the blood near your wound. An increased oxygen level indicates that the therapy is most likely helping.
- When is hyperbaric oxygen therapy used?

HBOT has been found to be an effective treatment for improving circulation, stimulating the growth of new blood vessels and fighting certain types of infections, as well as for treating crash injuries, diabetic wounds of the lower extremities, osteomyelitis, brown recluse spider bites, incision wounds and compromised skin grafts and flaps.
