A stroke is a major medical emergency. If you suspect someone is having a stroke, dial 911 immediately. Knowing how to identify these most common warning signs of a stroke and getting immediate medical attention can help prevent permanent brain damage. You may be having a stroke if you experience sudden:

  • Confusion
  • Dizziness
  • Loss of balance or coordination
  • Numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg (especially on one side of the body)
  • Severe headache
  • Trouble speaking or understanding conversation
  • Vision changes in one or both eyes
