Infusion Care
The Infusion Center is conveniently located in the hospital. It features eight chairs made up of six open and two private rooms, accommodating 10 patients simultaneously for non-oncology related infusions. Because our infusion clinic is located within the hospital, patients and physicians benefit from continuity of care, on-site lab services, easy access to patient records and an on-site emergency room.

Procedures we conduct include:
- Therapeutic phlebotomy
- PICC line insertion
- Blood transfusions
- ACTH Stim/Cortisol test
- Blood Transfusions

When ordering blood transfusions:
- Make sure you have a recent hemoglobin and hematocrit and send it with orders
- Specify the number of units (1 or 2) and allow three hours for each unit
- Order premeds of Tylenol and/or Benadryl, if needed
- Let us know if Lasix is needed between units of blood (PO or IV)
Patient Referral
Infusion Clinic hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4 pm. To refer patients to the Infusion Clinic, please fax orders to the infusion clinic at Call913-789-3211.
If your patient needs to be seen within 24 hours, please fax the order and call the Infusion Clinic at: Call913-934-2155. Allow at least one week for patient to be scheduled.
Orders must include patient name, date of birth, height and weight, allergies, diagnosis code, medication (dose, route, frequency and number of doses), provider name/ signature, and demographic page.
Information for Providers
Clinic Patient Criteria
Patient needs to be able to:
- Sit in a recliner for the duration of their appointment.
- Use call light appropriately.
- Have transportation available at time of discharge.
If patients need to take prescribed medications during their infusion time, they should bring the medications, including pain and nausea medications, with them to the clinic.

Sending Infusion Clinic Orders
- AdventHealth providers may easily order through Epic Therapy Plans.
- Referring providers from outside of AdventHealth may complete the Infusion Clinic Order form. Be sure to fill in all boxes and include the provider signature.
- Include the demographic page and insurance card(s), if available.
- For insurance authorization, include:
- Last two office visit notes.
- Labs within one to three months.
- Applicable clinical documentation.
- For iron infusions, include history of oral or intravenous iron therapy.

Insurance Authorizations
Insurance authorizations may take up to 14 business days. Please fax or email existing authorizations to the Pre-Access Department.

Important Notes
- Patients will not be scheduled until insurance authorization is obtained.
- If your patient needs to be scheduled within 48 hours, please call the clinic to discuss.
- Patients should check in at the Main Entrance of AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, not the Outpatient Entrance.

The Infusion Center is located on the AdventHealth Lenexa City Center campus at corner of I-435 and 87th Street in Lenexa, Kansas. We are located inside the hospital on the first floor. Patients should enter through the Main Entrance and check in at the front desk.
