Lifesaving Heart Care, Right Here in Kissimmee

When you or someone you love is having a heart attack, every second counts. A blocked artery can quickly damage the heart muscle, which is why fast, expert care is so important.

At AdventHealth Kissimmee, our cardiac catheterization lab is prepared to treat emergency heart attacks with advanced, minimally invasive procedures that reopen blocked arteries and restore healthy blood flow. Our goal is simple: protect your heart, ease your fear and help you return to the life you love.

As a faith-based hospital focused on whole-person care, we care for more than your heart — we care for you.

What Is PCI?

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a minimally invasive procedure used to open narrowed or blocked coronary arteries. It does not require open-heart surgery. Instead, your cardiologist uses a small catheter inserted through an artery to reach the heart and treat the blockage.

The exact treatment depends on your condition, and our team will talk with you and your loved ones about the safest and most effective approach.

PCI may include:

Balloon Angioplasty

A small balloon is guided through a thin tube (catheter) to the blocked area. The balloon gently inflates to widen the artery and restore blood flow. This helps the artery return to a more normal size.

Stent Placement

In many cases, your cardiologist places a small mesh tube called a stent in the artery. The stent helps keep the blood vessel open. Many stents are coated with medication to reduce the chance of the artery narrowing again.

Safer Access, Faster Recovery

Cardiac catheterization procedures require access to your arteries so your care team can identify and treat blockages. In the past, this was typically done through an artery in the groin.

Today, many procedures can be performed through the radial artery in the wrist. This approach often allows:

  • Faster recovery and earlier walking after the procedure
  • Greater comfort
  • Lower risk of bleeding

Your cardiologist will determine the safest and most effective access point for you and clearly explain your options, benefits and risks.

Care You Can Trust

More than one million cardiac catheterizations are performed each year in the United States. At AdventHealth Kissimmee, your care is delivered by an experienced cardiac team and supported by:

  • Accreditation from the American College of Cardiology
  • Connection to the broader AdventHealth cardiac network
  • A faith-based commitment to compassionate, whole-person care

We are proud to bring this level of heart care to our Kissimmee community, so you don’t have to travel far for lifesaving treatment.
