N.C., AdventHealth Names Director of Professional Development and Nursing Excellence

Sept. 19, 2022; HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – AdventHealth is excited to welcome Abby Gutch, MSN, RN, NE-BC, CMSRN as the Director of Professional Development and Nursing Excellence for AdventHealth Hendersonville. Gutch brings her experience in nursing management and her excellent leadership ability to her new role at AdventHealth Hendersonville.

Gutch started her career as an elementary school teacher. But after having an amazing experience with a care team while in the hospital herself, she decided to switch careers. Gutch earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and went on to earn her master’s degree in Nursing Leadership and Management from Western Governors University.

Gutch is passionate about providing compassionate, quality care to the community. And she strives to create an authentic, patient-centered approach to health care. “As a nurse, and a leader, it is my responsibility to ensure that every patient who comes through our doors is treated with respect, dignity, compassion, empathy, and love,” Gutch says, “This type of care can only be given when we put the patient at the center of all that we do. It is imperative that we take the time to learn who our patients are through observation, listening, and connecting. Once a connection has been created, whole-person care can be provided specific to the patients’ needs and wants.”

Gutch was drawn to AdventHealth’s welcoming culture and supportive care. She adds, “The AdventHealth mission, vision, and the opportunity to be a part of a faith-based system that provides whole-person, loving, compassionate, and quality care is one of the reasons I said “yes” to AdventHealth.”

“Abby’s commitment to helping her fellow nurses achieve excellence in the care they provide and the goals they have for their careers is already making an impact across our team,” shared Maureen Dzialo, MS, RN, Vice-President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Officer for AdventHealth Hendersonville. “She is connecting with our incredible nurses to learn what makes them passionate about nursing, listen to their ideas and share opportunities for them to expand their nursing roles through our lighted career path and debt-free education programs.”

Gutch is excited for the opportunity in her new role to lead nursing advancement and operations through professional development and clinical excellence. “I am beyond excited and thankful to join a community of health care providers that are passionate about patient centered/whole-person care as well as the well-being of each other,” Gutch shares, “I look forward to being a part of a team that serves our community as a whole and strives for clinical excellence, quality care, and growth.”

Gutch and her husband, Kenny, have two sons in middle school. She enjoys making elaborately decorated cakes, fishing, and spending time with her family.
