Aquablation
Aquablation therapy is a new type of surgical treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or enlarged prostate. At AdventHealth Bolingbrook, we are proud to be among the first in the Chicagoland area to offer this advanced, minimally invasive treatment. We are excited to offer Aquablation therapy because we believe in helping men suffering from enlarged prostate to get their life back and feel like themselves again.
Our Minimally Invasive Treatment Options
While our team will always help you consider the least invasive treatment options first, sometimes urology surgery is necessary. If you or a loved one requires surgery, you can rest assured knowing we use progressive surgical techniques, including robotic surgery.
- Rezum
-
Rezum treats enlarged prostate by sending tiny streams of water vapor through the urethra to the enlarged prostate gland. The stream destroys the problematic excess cells and are slowly removed naturally by the body. This is an outpatient procedure, typically requires a catheter, no incisions, no general anesthesia and recovery time is normally a few days.
- Bulkamid
-
Bulkamid is a minimally invasive treatment for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). It's a smooth, water-based gel that is inserted into the wall of the urethra through 3-4 injections. By increasing the volume to the wall of the urethra, less urine leaks out of the bladder throughout the day. The procedure can be done under local anesthesia, and generally takes just 10-15 minutes, with a short recovery time.
- Neuromodulation
-
Neuromodulation is a state-of-the-art therapy option for patients who have overactive bladder (OAB). The procedure involves nerve simulation through electrical impulses (under the skin). Before having the procedure, the patient will first undergo a trial period using a test simulator. If symptoms are improved during this trial, the patient will then be eligible to undergo the surgical procedure, which involves the placement of a small battery under the skin (in the upper buttocks). Additionally, an electrode is placed in the lower back to deliver the electrical impulses. The patient will receive a programmer to moderate the stimulation levels. While the urologist can initially set the controls, the patient can later adjust the levels on their own, according to what delivers them enduring comfort.
- Circumcision
-
Circumcision is a surgical procedure, which removes the skin covering the tip of the penis. While the procedure is most commonly performed on newborn boys, it is still available for adults, though the procedure is more complex. Among the benefits of the procedure are increased hygiene, lesser risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs) and sexually transmitted infections, as well as the prevention of penile problems.
- Vasectomy
-
A vasectomy is a permanent form of male birth control that cuts off the supply of sperm to semen. The procedure involves both cutting and sealing the tubes that transfer sperm. This low-risk procedure can usually be done in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia.
