- Cancer Screenings to Protect Your Health
-
Cancer screenings are an important part of preventive health care, as an early diagnosis leads to better outcomes. You can count on our experts at AdventHealth Apopka to offer the latest in preventive screenings.
Prostate cancer screenings may include:
- Digital rectal exam: a physical exam that allows your physician to feel any abnormalities around your prostate
- Prostate specific antigen (PSA) test: a blood test to detect elevated prostate-specific antigens in your blood, which may suggest the presence of prostate cancer
If either of these screenings show abnormalities, your primary care provider will recommend further testing or may refer you to one of our experienced urologists who specialize in prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Talk to your doctor about screening if you are:
- A man age 50 or older with an average risk of developing prostate cancer
- A man age 45 or older with an above-average risk of developing prostate cancer (family history, race or medical history)
- A man age 40 or older with a high risk of developing prostate cancer (family history, race or medical history)
Our urologists can help identify risk factors and evaluate your risk of developing prostate cancer so you can take charge of your health.
- Aquablation for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
-
For many men, an enlarged prostate — or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — is part of aging. This change begins around age 40 for some men, and about half of the male population experiences this condition by age 60.
Removing obstructing tissue via surgery or laser procedures has traditionally been the most common form of treatment for persistent moderate to severe BPH. However, the use of heat does have risks, including erectile dysfunction.
One option to reduce heat-related risks is Aquablation. This minimally invasive, robotic-assisted approach uses heat-free technology to remove a precise amount of tissue with room-temperature water — no incision required.
Even though BPH isn’t life-threatening, whole-person health is our focus, and we take these quality-of-life concerns seriously. Aquablation may help you find relief while avoiding the risks of traditional surgery. Contact one of our urology specialists in Apopka to learn more about Aquablation and determine if you’re a candidate for this innovative solution.
Urology Services We Offer
-
Complex Adult and Pediatric Reconstructive Urology
Our teams repair and treat complex urologic complications and injuries that often result from cancer surgery and treatments, surgical misadventures, radiation therapy or urologic trauma.
-
Minimally Invasive Robotic-Assisted Surgery
Robotic-assisted surgery is usually associated with minimally invasive procedures, where a surgeon operates through tiny incisions. Robotic arms are also sometimes used in certain traditional open surgical procedures.
-
Robotic-Assisted Kidney Surgery
A leading-edge procedure, robotic-assisted kidney surgery provides patients with an alternative to traditional surgery to reduce pain, recovery time and risk. Also called a robotic nephrectomy or robotic partial nephrectomy, it's a common treatment for kidney cancer and other conditions affecting the kidney.
-
Urologic Oncology
Each year, thousands of people are diagnosed with cancer of the prostate, bladder or kidney, as well as testicular cancer. If you're diagnosed, our experienced cancer care teams will be with you at every step.
-
Vasectomy (Male Sterilization)
In an approximately 30-minute outpatient procedure for contraception, a surgeon makes a small incision into the scrotum and seals the tubes that carry sperm from the testes.
-
Vasectomy Reversal
It's possible to reverse a vasectomy through one of two surgical procedures. The first, vasovasostomy, reconnects the two ends of the severed vas deferens (the tube that carries sperm). The second, vasoepididymostomy, connects the vas deferens directly to the epididymis, the coiled tube at the back of each testicle.
-
Zoladex® Depot Insertions
Zoladex® injection therapy is primarily used to treat prostate cancer in men and to manage endometriosis in women.
