AdventHealth Transplant Institute Porter is proud to announce the acquisition of the latest FibroScan technology, the FibroScan Expert 630. This state-of-the-art imaging-based diagnostic test, developed by Echosens, is revolutionizing the way we assess liver health and manage liver diseases for our patients.
How Does This Technology Help Liver Patients?
FibroScan is an innovative diagnostic tool that evaluates liver fibrosis (stiffness, scarring) and steatosis (fat) using transient-elastography technology. Similar to an ultrasound, FibroScan emits a small pulse of energy, called a shear wave, which travels through the liver. The speed of this shear wave is measured to generate two scores: one for liver stiffness and one for liver fat. These scores provide a comprehensive understanding of overall liver health and how it may change over time with lifestyle or medical interventions. The procedure is quick, taking less than 10 minutes, and the only sensation patients feel is light vibration on their skin.
What Does It Do?
In addition to assessing liver stiffness, the FibroScan Expert 630 also measures spleen stiffness in patients with suspected liver fibrosis and portal hypertension. This dual assessment is crucial for evaluating clinically significant portal hypertension and monitoring the effectiveness of treatments for this condition. With the help of new medications for metabolic dysfunction steatohepatitis with moderate to advanced fibrosis, FibroScan allows us to monitor the improvement of liver fibrosis after treatment.
The AdventHealth Transplant Institute Porter is the first facility in Colorado to acquire the FibroScan Expert 630. This advanced technology sets us apart as a leader in liver health diagnostics and treatment. By measuring both liver and spleen stiffness, we can provide a more accurate and comprehensive evaluation of liver health, enabling us to offer better care and outcomes for our patients. Our commitment to adopting the latest medical advancements ensures that we remain at the forefront of liver disease management and continue to provide exceptional care to our community.
