Abel Biri, president and CEO of AdventHealth Waterman, was named Outstanding Healthcare Executive, and Holly Soucy, a cancer care nurse with AdventHealth, was named Outstanding Nurse at the Chamber’s 2025 Healthcare Awards.

The annual awards celebrate health care professionals across Central Florida who go beyond their day-to-day roles to improve lives and strengthen communities.

Biri was honored for his work expanding health care access across Lake County.

Under his leadership, AdventHealth Waterman introduced a robotic-assisted cardiac surgery program, nearly doubled an inpatient rehabilitation unit, championed cancer education for the Hispanic community, and recruited nearly 20 new physicians and advanced practitioners to the area. He also led $50 million in investments for new medical facilities, including a free-standing emergency department and medical office building.

In addition to his work inside the hospital, Biri raised $106,000 for the AdventHealth Waterman Community Clinic by walking 125 miles on Spain’s historic Camino de Santiago. The clinic provides care for uninsured and underinsured residents.

Additionally, he supports global medical missions in Ethiopia. Closer to home, he plays an active role in local economic development efforts.

“Abel leads with heart and purpose. He’s not just growing services—he’s creating access, building trust, and shaping the future of care for our communities,” said Lorenzo Brown, president and CEO for the AdventHealth region that includes west Volusia, north Lake, and south Sumter counties.

Soucy has spent three decades at AdventHealth, with nearly a decade as a cancer care navigator.

Known for her compassion and steady presence, she has guided countless patients and families in West Volusia County through cancer treatment with empathy and strength. From starting a food pantry and resource room to leading support groups and accompanying patients to appointments, Soucy has built a reputation for deeply personal, compassionate cancer care.

“Holly brings light to people’s darkest moments,” Brown said. “She's the kind of nurse who listens, shows up, and stays present when it matters most.”

Also recognized at this year’s awards were AdventHealth neurosurgeon Dr. Wissam Elfallal, nominated for Outstanding Healthcare Practitioner. Additionally, the SherryStrong Integrative Wellness Center at AdventHealth Daytona Beach was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Wellness Programs. The center provides free services to cancer patients and their families, including oncology massage, acupuncture, yoga, meditation, nutritional counseling and support groups.
