Shaping Future Leaders: AdventHealth’s Leadership Residency

The AdventHealth Leadership Residency is a three-year program that gives residents the opportunity to coordinate special projects and interact with leaders at all levels of the organization. Residents will receive specialized leadership development training that is aligned with our mission-focused culture, and they will be challenged in ways that will help them learn and grow into future leaders.

This residency is designed for recent college graduates who are ready to begin a dynamic career in health care. Learn More About the Leadership Residency Experience

AdventHealth experiences are a key component of the residency curriculum. Residents will have the benefit of access to participate in a number of educational opportunities such as: one-on-one meetings with executives; attending board meetings, departmental or regional meetings; strategy sessions and retreats; observation of surgeries and clinical encounters. Residents are encouraged to seek out these learning experiences, which are rare opportunities and highly valued resources. Learn more about other developmental features of the program below.

Resident Mentors

Residents will be mentored both formally and informally by many leaders throughout the program. At the six-month point, residents are formally paired with their first mentor. This relationship lasts one year, and then the resident will be paired with a new mentor for an additional year. The AdventHealth Leadership Residency uses the MentorCliQ platform to match, track and manage the relationships as well as provide mentoring resources.

Graduate Education

As a companion to leadership study, all residents will obtain a master’s degree. This will be a degree that is related to the resident’s work that will best prepare them for their career path. This is a decision that is made in partnership with the resident’s preceptor and the Leadership Institute.

Interim Leadership Assignment

Each resident will have the opportunity to lead a team in an interim management role. Examples include stepping into a manager or director role while a team member is on leave, filling in when someone has retired or covering a gap during a candidate search. Each resident will also serve as a “Resident Advisor” as they lead one to three interns in the summer leadership internship. These interns will report to the resident throughout the summer. Residents have the opportunity to provide them with both informal and formal feedback, a crucial piece of resident development.

Spiritual Formation

We aim to integrate mission, health and balance in a wholistic way — a way that is personal to each resident as they learn to be a strong missional leader. Spiritual Formation is embedded throughout the resident curriculum and experiences at AdventHealth.

The Resident Learning Community

The Resident Learning Community consists of both professional and personal touchpoints among residents. The goal is to create meaningful connections by getting to know and spending time with each other. Residents take ownership of building their learning community.
