Patient experience is at the core of Adventist Health Systems (AHS) mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ. Going above and beyond, treating patients as if they are family, and exhibiting uncommon compassion are ideals that permeate care teams across the organizations 46 campuses and drive its quest to achieve at or above the top quartile nationally in patient experience.
At the sixth annual Patient Experience Summit in Kissimmee, Florida, Adventist Health System brought together more than 700 healthcare professionals to highlight the importance of the patient experience and to recognize care teams that excelled in providing top-notch, compassionate patient care.
The pioneers who started our health care system 150 years ago were motivated by uncommon compassion, said Don Jernigan, president/CEO of Adventist Health System. I believe that uncommon compassion happens through Gods spirit moving in a persons life, and our mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ through the patient experience has a very direct and positive effect on patients and caregivers alike. As we aim for the top quartile nationally in patient experience, it will take caregivers who consistently show this level of care and compassion.
Gordon Hospital was recognized with the following awards:
- Top Performer Overall (in patient experience)
- Nurse Communication

Gordon Hospital was also recognized during the summit for performing, on average, at or above 75 percent of the rest of the nation in the inpatient area.
In addition to the hospitals awards, Gordon Home Care was recognized as a top performer in patient experience, one of five AHS facilities to be recognized. We are so pleased to honor the dedicated efforts of our care teams for their consistent delivery of an exceptional patient experience with uncommon compassion, said Pam Guler, vice president and chief patient experience officer for Adventist Health System.
