Nearly 1 in 100 Americans suffers from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a group of disorders that cause chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis the two most common forms. People with IBD face flares of inflammation that not only negatively impact their health and quality of life but also lead to psychological distress, social isolation and economic hardship. Many also encounter diagnosis and treatment delays along with lack of access to specialized care.
