A babymoon is a special trip taken by couples and families expecting a baby before their newest family member is born. We know that many people choose Central Florida for their babymoon. And we also understand that when you’re expecting, you have a lot of questions so we’re here to make it easy.
Keep reading for all you need to know about when it’s healthiest to go on a babymoon and how you can travel to the Orlando area safely and comfortably while pregnant.
First-Trimester Travel Game Plan
The best time to travel while pregnant is typically in the second trimester, between 14 and 28 weeks. This is the time when most moms-to-be will likely feel their best. During the first trimester you may still have morning sickness, which some expectant mothers experience throughout the day or in the evening (“evening sickness”).
Relax and Enjoy
If you travel to Orlando during the first trimester, be sure to rest often and pack drug-free anti-nausea solutions. Look into some of our world-class resorts that offer babymoon packages. Some have created unique experiences for pregnancy-focused vacations. Many Orlando resorts have relaxing lazy rivers, many pools, spas and fitness classes — all appropriate activities for expecting families, including soon-to-be big brothers and sisters.
Pro Tip: Some people don’t experience nausea at all during pregnancy, but plan ahead so you’re prepared either way — especially while traveling. Pack some snacks, like crackers and ginger chews, to help with nausea.
Second Trimester Babymoon Tips
Traveling to Orlando during your second trimester could make for a memorable babymoon for you and your growing family. This is a good time for light exercise activities like walking tours or yoga retreats. Just take it easy and give yourself plenty of time to rest. Remember not to push yourself. You don’t have to “do it all” when you’re here.
Hydration Station
Make sure you stay hydrated. It can get warm in Central Florida even in the winter, so get plenty of water. In the cooler months, you can easily still dine at one of Orlando’s many al fresco restaurants, which is a great way to wind down and watch a spectacular sunset. In the summer, look for indoor activities to stay cool. Stop for a leisurely lunch or allow yourself a pool day at your resort.
The body doesn’t regulate temperatures during pregnancy as well as other times, so you may find you’re unexpectedly warm or cold. Dress in layers and be ready for any weather situation. Be sure to pack your medications and prenatal vitamins — you may be on vacation, but your baby is still working hard to grow and develop.
Remember Your Sunscreen
You may notice your skin darkening while pregnant, especially on your face. This condition, called chloasma isn’t permanent. It’s always a good idea to be diligent about using sunscreen with a high SPF and wearing a hat outdoors.
Pro Tip: If your babymoon plans include flights, attending performances or sports events, secure aisle seating whenever you can. You may have to use the restroom more often when you’re pregnant, and an aisle seat can make getting there easier for you.
Third Trimester Home Stretch Strategies
During the last three months of your pregnancy, be sure you have the ability to get to a doctor quickly if the need arises. And Orlando offers more than our famous world-class resorts — we have outstanding, award-winning health care at AdventHealth with esteemed mom-and-baby care, so you can feel safe traveling to Central Florida at any point during your pregnancy.
Stay Comfortable
Staying comfortable is important if you’re babymooning during this crucial period. You might like the support of a pregnancy belt or belly band if you’re having back pain. This might also be a great time for a pregnancy massage and spa treatments as part of a third-trimester babymoon.
Pro Tip: If you’re feeling more discomfort during your third trimester, you might not feel like walking as much. This is the time to look for an entertainment-focused babymoon, perhaps filled with live performances, concerts and movies. If you’re having trouble walking, Orlando makes it easy to rent electric mobility carts so you don’t miss any of the action.
