Exceptional Lymphatic Care After Cancer Treatment

Your Lymphedema Therapist

If you’ve had your lymph nodes removed as part of your cancer treatment, you may request to be scheduled with one of our certified lymphedema therapists for lymphatic screening and care.

Our therapists provide proactive monitoring for early signs and symptoms of lymphedema. They will take circumferential measurements and can do a bioimpedance spectroscopy analysis to measure fluid and tissue composition as well. Your therapist will also be well-versed in lymphatic surveillance models for breast cancer, melanoma, head and neck cancer, gynecologic cancer and urogenital cancers.

Depending on your unique needs, your therapist will also work with you to:

  • Empower you with a home program, including skin care and simple exercises
  • Learn safe practices to lower the risk of swelling
  • Offer expert guidance on compression bandaging and garment use
  • Reduce swelling and discomfort with complete decongestive therapy

Your therapist will consider your unique needs at every step, listening to your concerns, answering your questions and easing your mind.

Lymphatic Rehabilitation

At AdventHealth Sports Med and Rehab, our certified lymphedema therapists are specially trained in the treatment and management of swelling and lymphatic problems. We’re dedicated to reducing the impact of lymphedema on daily life by empowering you with the knowledge and tools to effectively self-manage your condition.

Our team provides expert guidance through complete decongestive therapy — the gold standard of care for lymphedema treatment — helping you find relief, improve function and enhance your overall quality of life.

Maintenance Care for Swelling

If you’re experiencing mild swelling, we also provide support during the maintenance phase of your treatment. This includes education and guidance on compression garment selection and fitting, self-manual lymphatic drainage, skin care and safe exercise strategies to help you stay in control of your health long term.

Our team is trained to treat swelling caused by a variety of conditions. The most common causes include:

  • Cancer treatment (surgery or radiation)
  • Primary lymphedema (inherited or congenital lymphatic problems)
  • Lipedema (abnormal fat distribution that can lead to swelling)
  • Infections (or repeated cellulitis)
  • Venous disease (chronic vein problems)
  • Obesity or immobility
  • Trauma or injury that damages lymphatic flow
