Pediatric Knee Surgery

Doctors who specialize in pediatric knee surgery regularly treat children with congenital knee problems, sports-related injuries such as ACL tears, and various disorders of the knee joint such as Osgood-Schlatter disease and Sindig-Larsen-Johannson disease. Surgical correction is available for such conditions as knock-knees, dislocations, discoid meniscus, dislocating patella, bow legs, and more. It is very important for children with knee and leg injuries or abnormalities to be medically evaluated due to the potential for growth disruptions during their bone development. The good news is that fractures that occur in children’s bones tend to heal more quickly and be more malleable than those that occur in adults. Many knee correction surgeries can be accomplished by an orthopaedic surgeon via arthroscopy, which is a less invasive form of surgery than the “open” form and employs smaller instruments and incisions.
