For patients and families, confidence in safety and quality is essential when choosing where to receive care. National safety ratings provide an independent look at how hospitals protect patients and support safe care experiences.
This year, several AdventHealth hospitals were recognized by The Leapfrog Group as 2025 Top Hospitals, an honor awarded to a small percentage of hospitals nationwide based on rigorous safety, quality and patient experience standards.
The Leapfrog Group -- a national, independent organization-- evaluates hospitals using publicly reported data to help patients make informed decisions about their care.
AdventHealth hospitals were recognized across general, teaching, rural and children’s hospital settings, reflecting a consistent approach to safety across diverse care environments.
"We want every patient to feel safe during their most vulnerable moments."
What this recognition means for patients
The Leapfrog Top Hospital recognition is based on how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm and support safe care experiences. Evaluations focus on areas that directly affect patients, including:
- Preventing infections and complications
- Supporting safer surgeries and procedures
- Providing high-quality maternity care
- Reducing medication errors
- Promoting transparency and ethical practices
"AdventHealth has distinguished itself through an unwavering focus on safety and quality, earning a place on this year’s list of Top Hospitals,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This recognition reflects a culture of transparency and continuous improvement—one embraced by every member of the organization. We commend the entire team at AdventHealth for reaching this outstanding milestone."
For patients, this recognition offers added confidence that safety practices are consistently in place -- not just during procedures, but throughout the entire care experience.
“Our patient experience teams work alongside our clinical teams to deliver care that is both safe and deeply compassionate,” said Julie Rish. “We strive to create an experience where patients feel seen and heard, wholistically cared for and supported throughout their care journey. By partnering with patients and honoring their unique perspectives, we aim to help them navigate every aspect of their care. When safety and experience work in tandem, we foster an environment where patients can heal with greater peace of mind.”
Nearly 20 AdventHealth hospitals were also recently included on Forbes’ list of America’s Top Hospitals, another independent assessment designed to help patients better understand quality and outcomes when choosing where to receive care. The list uses publicly reported data on outcomes, safety, patient experience and care effectiveness to compare hospitals nationwide.
Caring for the whole person
At AdventHealth, patient safety is part of a broader promise to care for the whole person -- body, mind and spirit. Safety and compassion guide how caregivers support patients and families every day.
“We want every patient to feel safe during their most vulnerable moments,” said William Scharf, MD, executive clinical director of quality and safety at AdventHealth. “That commitment to our ‘Keep Me Safe’ service standard helps patients heal with confidence.”
AdventHealth’s ongoing focus on safety has earned high scores from Leapfrog over time, including the organization’s strong performance in Leapfrog’s Fall and Spring Safety grades in 2025, as well as being recognized as the first and only health system to receive Leapfrog’s Emerald Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Health Care System.
