DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., June 10, 2016 On May 27, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center general surgeon Dr. Christopher Grove received the prestigious Silver Buffalo Award from the National Court of Honor of the Boy Scouts of America.
The Silver Buffalo Award is the highest recognition that adults can receive from the Boy Scouts of America and recognizes Scouters of exceptional character, specifically those who have served at the national level. It was awarded to 13 individuals this year, and has previously been awarded to eight United States presidents, as well as Walt Disney, Jimmy Stewart, Yogi Berra, and Archie Manning.
It is extremely humbling to be honored by my peers, especially when I enjoy working with Scouts and Scouters as much as I do, Grove said.
Grove has served in a health and safety role for the Boy Scouts since 1997 and has received several other awards, including the Boy Scouts of Americas Silver Antelope award and Order of the Arrow's Distinguished Service award, as well as the National Eagle Scout Associations Outstanding Eagle Scout of the Year award. He is also the vice chairman for outdoor adventures, a previous council president, faculty member, and serves in several other roles.
In addition to Grove, this years Silver Buffalo Award recipients include: Timothy A. Acree of Tennessee, Ronald Bell of Florida, Steven D. Bradley of California, Daniel Leo Coberly of Alabama, Timothy Michael Dolan of New York, J. Brett Harvey of Pennsylvania, Mark A. Kriebel of New York, Joseph P. Landy of New York, Christine Perry of Washington, James D. Rogers of Nevada, John D. Tickle of Virginia, and David M. Weekley of Texas.
Grove has nearly 15 years of medical experience and has been at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach since January. He earned his medical degree from University of Alabama School of Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
