Small miracles, extraordinary care

Twin 1

LOUISVILLE, Colo. Each month, nearly 200 babies begin their story at AdventHealth Avista’s New Life Birth Center. For families throughout the greater Boulder community, it is a place filled with hope and new beginnings - and home to a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) equipped to provide advanced, specialized care for newborns who need extra support from the very start.

While every family hopes for a smooth delivery and a healthy newborn, our NICU team stands ready to care for infants facing unexpected challenges. For Chelsea and Colby Valenta, that readiness made all the difference.

When Chelsea began experiencing contractions at just 28 weeks, she knew something wasn’t right. The couple rushed to the New Life Birth Center at AdventHealth Avista, where Chelsea was admitted and treated to stop the contractions. Three weeks later, she delivered twin boys - Arthur, weighing five pounds, and Archie, weighing three pounds, 10 ounces.

Immediately after birth, the twins were admitted to Avista’s NICU, where they received round-the-clock, specialized care. Over the next two months, Arthur and Archie faced challenges regulating their breathing and heart rates, along with significant gastrointestinal complications. Thanks to the expertise and dedication of the NICU team, both boys stabilized, grew stronger and were eventually able to go home.

“The New Life Birth Center and the team in the NICU were HUGE in helping us stay calm and have hope,” said Colby. “We simply could not have asked for better care for our kids and support for ourselves.”

At AdventHealth Avista, caring for the smallest patients is both a responsibility and a privilege. We are humbled and incredibly proud to serve the tiniest members of our community - and the families who entrust us with their care.
