Internal Medicine residency program leaders and resident doctors celebrated adding 15 new team members during the match day celebration at AdventHealth Sebring
SEBRING, Fla. — Nearly two dozen medical residents are joining AdventHealth Sebring’s clinical team, helping to expand access to care for patients and families across the community as they continue their medical training.
Match Day, which was Friday, March 20, is where residents across the country found out where they are going to continue the next chapter of their medical careers.
Before Match Day, these physicians apply and interview at residency programs in the specialty of their choice and rank their preferences. The residency programs also rank their preferences of these physicians. The rank lists are then matched through the National Residency Match Program, (NRMP). The NRMP said more than 41,000 positions were filled by post-graduate year-1 and post-graduate year-2 applicants across the nation, this year.
AdventHealth Sebring is thrilled to announce that it has filled all spots for both Internal Medicine and Family Medicine programs, which include 15 internal medicine residents and eight family medicine program residents.
Graduate Medical Education is the phase following medical school that equips physicians in a specialty.
“It is a privilege to welcome this remarkable group of resident physicians to the Heartland and to AdventHealth’s calling to care for others with compassion and purpose,” said Dr. Thomas Shimshak, Internal Medicine Residency Program director at AdventHealth Sebring. “Our faculty is eager to support their growth as clinicians and mentors as they partner with us to provide thoughtful, compassionate, whole-person care.”
The mission of AdventHealth Sebring Internal Medicine Residency Program is to consistently deliver exceptional care and is committed to improving the health, prosperity and well-being of the communities it serves. The program aims to train well-rounded, self-reliant internists to practice in both urban communities and rural settings. The program’s primary objective is to enhance the supply of community hospital-oriented internists devoted to serving the public in the region or similar areas of the country.
“Supporting these driven and passionate resident doctors as they work toward their professional aspirations is incredibly meaningful,” said Dr. Pamela Knickerbocker, director of the Family Medicine Residency Program at AdventHealth Sebring. “Having this program in place allows them to train in a model of care that supports physical, emotional and spiritual well‑being. We’re very much looking forward to helping them on their journey.”
The goal of AdventHealth Sebring’s Family Medicine Residency program is to train family physicians who will be able to provide continuous and comprehensive care across the lifespan to patients and families. The program aims to produce the finest family physicians to meet the personal and population health needs of the South Central Florida Region.
“We are thrilled to bring such an accomplished group of physicians into our AdventHealth family,” said Jason Dunkel, president and CEO of AdventHealth Sebring. “Being part of their development as caregivers is an honor and having them here in our community strengthens our ability to serve and elevate care across the Heartland.”
