AdventHealth for Children nursing leaders and staff celebrate Magnet recognition in 2021.
AdventHealth for Children, for the third consecutive time, is recognized for overall nursing excellence and exemplary patient care by a respected, national program.
The American Nurses Credentialing Center recently announced that AdventHealth for Children “exceeds national standards” for high-quality nursing in multiple areas, and has bestowed Magnet Recognition for the third time this decade.
The flagship Orlando campus of AdventHealth for Children was also recognized as a Magnet organization in 2011 and 2016. This credential is the highest national honor for professional nursing practice, and requires the organization to re-apply every four years.
AdventHealth for Children is part of a large, comprehensive national health system, AdventHealth. The organization consists of 204 beds in pediatric acute care and 86 beds in obstetrics and gynecology. The organization is a not-for-profit, faith-based system serving the needs of Central Florida. In 2020, there were 5,278 obstetric admissions, 4,817 deliveries, 4,205 pediatric admissions; 1,087 NICU admissions, 5,160 surgeries, 13,887 pediatric ED visits, and 784 obstetrics ED visits (one month only).
“We’re so proud of our nursing, multidisciplinary and support teams, and it is a real source of pride for our entire team to be recognized yet again for providing world class care to Central Florida children, women, and their families,” said Lisa Bowman, vice president and chief nursing officer, AdventHealth for Children and AdventHealth for Women. “It’s rewarding to know the efforts of so many dedicated, talented and compassionate caregivers are being recognized, and our patients are benefiting from the highest level of care.”
Magnet recognition indicates a health care organization provides a high level of care based on specific evidence:
- Higher patient satisfaction with nurse communication, availability of help and receipt of discharge information.
- Lower risk of 30-day mortality and lower failure to rescue rates.
- Higher job satisfaction among nurses.
- Lower nurse reports of intentions to leave their positions.
- Improved clinical outcomes, such as infection rates, falls, and pressure injuries
- Decreased turnover
- Innovations in professional nursing practice
AdventHealth for Women joined in the honors with Labor and Delivery, Mother-Infant Unit, Obstetrical Emergency Department and Perinatal High-Risk Unit at its Orlando location included in this Magnet recognition.
