PALM COAST, Fla., January 4, 2017 Florida Hospital Flagler has selected Eon Stephens to serve as medical staff manager.
In this role, Stephens is responsible for efficiently processing physician applications for medical staff privileges, appointment, and reappointment, as well as applying Joint Commission standards and medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations for medical staff guidance.
She has more than 20 years of experience and began her career in managed care credentialing, before switching to hospital credentialing and working for major managed care companies, such as Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States and United Healthcare.
Most recently, she served as lead credentials coordinator for Suburban Hospital, a community-based, not-for-profit hospital that is a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area. In this role, Stephens was responsible for reviewing initial and reappointment applications and verify credentials per federal and state regulatory guidelines, The Joint Commission (TJC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and Suburban Hospitals bylaws. She also coordinated the privileging process of da Vinci robotic proctors, physicians applying for additional privileges, and granting temporary and emergency privileges for special surgical cases.
She has presented at the 2015 and 2016 Morrisey educational and technology conferences in Chicago, Illinois, on how to use the medical credentialing software MSOW in a paperless environment for regulatory and accreditation surveys. Morrisey produces MSOW, which is used across the Florida Hospital system, as well as other major health systems such as Johns Hopkins and Advocate.
A Daytona Beach resident, Stephens is a certified provider credentialing specialist and certified professional medical services management by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS).
