ORMOND BEACH, Fla., December 13, 2016 On Dec. 7, the American Legion Riders of Ormond Beach donated 50 mini-Christmas trees to Florida Hospital HospiceCare patients. We are so thankful for this donation. Some of our patients have shared that this tree will be the only Christmas decoration they have this year, and for most patients, this will sadly be their final Christmas, said Barbara Cady, Florida Hospital HospiceCare volunteer specialist. We cant thank the American Legion Riders enough for bringing smiles and good wishes, and just brightening our patients days. The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. The American Legion Riders are a motorcycle enthusiast group and its chapters are well known for their charitable work. A few of the American Legion Riders of Ormond Beach had loved ones in hospice, so they decided to donate this gift, as they understood what this could mean to our patients and their families, Cady said. Unfortunately, due to fire codes, we couldn't share these trees with patients staying in our inpatient units at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach or the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House at Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast. These trees instead went to Florida Hospital HospiceCare patients who are receiving care in their own homes throughout Volusia and Flagler counties. Additional Christmas trees were also provided by the staff of optometrist Dr. Michael Cady, as well as dentist Dr. David Brown and prosthodontist Dr. Andrew Nawrocki of Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry in Ormond Beach.
