AdventHealth Manchester recognized for timely, coordinated care during severe heart attacks

AdventHealth Manchester has received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® Regional Recognition award for its role in providing timely, coordinated care for patients experiencing the most severe type of heart attack.

The recognition highlights the hospital’s collaboration with emergency medical services, referring hospitals and receiving hospitals throughout the southeastern region.

Together, these teams follow coordinated, evidence-based processes designed to help patients receive the right care as quickly as possible.

An ST-elevation myocardial infarction, commonly called a STEMI, is a life-threatening heart attack that is usually caused by a complete blockage in an artery supplying blood to the heart. When this occurs, every minute matters. Restoring blood flow quickly can help limit permanent heart damage and improve a patient’s chance of survival.

Caring for a patient experiencing a STEMI requires close communication across the entire care journey. That process may begin with a 911 call and continue through EMS evaluation, emergency department treatment, transfer and advanced cardiac care.

AdventHealth Manchester works closely with regional partners to help ensure each step is completed efficiently and according to nationally recognized guidelines.

The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline initiative supports hospitals and EMS agencies in strengthening systems of care for patients with high-risk, time-sensitive medical emergencies.

Participating organizations use research-based guidelines, measure performance and identify opportunities to improve coordination and patient outcomes.

For patients and families in Clay County and surrounding communities, this recognition demonstrates AdventHealth Manchester’s continued commitment to quickly identifying severe heart attacks, beginning appropriate emergency care and coordinating transfer to a specialized cardiac center when advanced treatment is needed.

Anyone experiencing possible heart attack symptoms, including chest pressure or discomfort, shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, lightheadedness or pain that spreads to the arm, back, neck or jaw, should call 911 immediately.

AdventHealth Manchester will continue working with EMS agencies and hospital partners across the region to strengthen heart attack care and improve access to timely, lifesaving treatment throughout Eastern Kentucky.
