HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — AdventHealth recognizes Julia Greer, RN, Intensive Care Unit, as the latest recipient of The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses.
The DAISY Award is an international recognition honoring nurses whose clinical expertise, compassion and commitment make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, families and fellow team members.
Greer was nominated by a fellow team member who shared how her vigilance and determination helped prevent potential harm to a patient.
While reviewing laboratory results, Greer recognized an unexpected and concerning increase in medication.
Instead of assuming the result was correct, she immediately began investigating possible causes.
When she couldn’t identify the cause on her own, she partnered with the pharmacy team to continue the investigation.
That collaboration helped uncover a possible explanation, allowing the provider to stop additional doses before the medication level increased further.
The coworker who entered the DAISY Award nomination explained that Greer continuously tries to find ways to positively impact patient care: "Julia is an excellent example of compassion in nursing, and I'd love to see her recognized for it."

The DAISY Foundation was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of an autoimmune disease in 1999.
Inspired by the extraordinary compassion shown by nurses during his care, his family created The DAISY Award to recognize nurses who make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
