Hospital Donates Bedding to Local Children in Need

ORANGE CITY, Fla., June 17, 2014 On June 10, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial employees donated $1,100-worth of bedding items to the Florida United Methodist Children's Home in Deltona.

With 100 to 125 residents daily, these donated bedding items will be given to local children, many of whom have never had their own set of sheets or pillow.

Through their mission to provide care and comfort as Jesus taught his disciples, the Florida United Methodist Children's Home is deeply rooted in the community. For more than 100 years, they have provided for children, including those who need temporary shelter for a few days, as well as those who need more permanent care and in need of a home.

This requires tremendous energy and commitment on the part of the Church, said Beth Grant, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial chaplain. Florida Hospital Fish Memorial is humbled to be a part of Florida United Methodist Children's Homes heritage of caring for our community's kids. Together, our missions of service to the community complement each other, as we both seek to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

The Florida United Methodist Children's Home was established in Enterprise, Fla., in 1908 as the Florida Methodist Orphanage. The Florida Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South began this institution by declaring, Here we propose, by the help of God and the cooperation of all good people, to found a noble Christian institution for the relief, education and training of destitute, fatherless and motherless children, who may look to us for help. For 104 years, this has been the guiding principle of the Children's Home.

The campus currently provides a variety of holistic services to a diverse group of children ranging from ages 6-17 in 15 home settings. Utilizing a house parent model in the residential group setting, residents and house parents share meals together, which are prepared in the home and are enjoyed in a family-style setting. A qualified dietician prepares the meal plans and the house parents pick-up the groceries from the commissary, located on-site.
